Where Bloggers Live: Put Your Records On

    8 October 2021 / 0 Comments

If you read my Ageless Style post last week, then you already know two things about my musical taste: We were not allowed to listen to secular music My first Walkman was a game changer My mom and stepfather are both preachers, so we grew up in a conservative household where we were not allowed to dance, listen to secular music, play cards, blah blah blah… So I used to listen to Contemporary Gospel artists like The Clark Sisters and the Winans. Their gospel music was set to a funky beat that my parents were able to {barely} tolerate. But I loved them. Two of my favorite and most often…

    A Girl and Her Guitar

    1 May 2012 / 4 Comments

Last week, Miss 15 begged me to take her to the store because she’d been saving her babysitting money to buy something very special… An acoustic guitar, which she’s teaching herself to play. Do you remember what you spent your first earnings on?

Can You Listen to Music and Write? #NaBloPoMo

    3 November 2011 / 9 Comments

I’m a dancer. Not to be mistaken for a person who has rhythm or fancy moves, mind you. But I’m a dancer. Every time I hear music, my feet start tapping, my shoulders start shaking and it’s all over but the hopping on the stage. Of course, I’d never dance on a stage. Imagine me nodding my head yes as I typed that sentence. I even dance during commercials. Lowe’s, anyone? Love Gin Wigmore’s voice. So listening to music while I write is definitely not an option. I watch television. Yep, I turn the television on and just let it flow. Well, not really flow. It comes out more like…

Day 16: Songs that Make Me Want to Cry

    2 December 2010 / 2 Comments

I actually have two songs that can bring me to tears at the drop of a hat:  Troubles of this World and Here I am to Worship. Troubles of this World, sung by Mahalia Jackson during the funeral scene in my favorite movie, Imitation of Life.  It was also my father’s favorite song and was played during his funeral. Here I am to Worship sung by Heather Headley.  When I listen to this song, I just visualize Christ suffering all sorts of torment, being nailed to the cross and then rising after three days for me ~ I can’t help but to weep way down in my soul…. Is there…

Day 1: My Favorite Songs (I Can’t Pick Just One)

    8 November 2010 / 10 Comments

I love music, unfortunately, I’m not very musically inclined.  Well, except when I’m in the car ~ then I turn up the radio and totally rock out to some of my favorite songs.  Sometimes, if I’m really “feeling it”  I’ll pull over on the side of the road and try to force the kids to sing along with me. I couldn’t pick just one song because there are are so many that mean a lot to me for various reasons, so I decided to break them down into categories and offer two selections from each one.  Overachieve, much? Classical Somewhere in Time by Maksim Rhapsody on a Theme of Paginini…
