Bow Flats

Black Bow Flats: Kmart

Yesterday ended my first week at the library. While some things are still pretty new, in many ways it feels like I’ve always been there. Don’t you just love when you ease into a new place and instantly feel comfortable? Most of this week was spent with housekeeping ~ enrolling in benefits, getting my email set up, cleaning up my office, etc. Next week, I hope to actually get into the business of running my department ~ getting some training, finding out exactly what everyone in my department does, etc.

Oh, you don’t know what I do? Well, my title is “Library Associate” but what I do is supervise the periodicals, circulation and interlibrary loan departments (also known as Access Services). In other words, I make sure that students, faculty and staff have their information seeking needs met through a variety of formats (electronic, paper, etc) and if there is a barrier, I remove it. Kinda makes me sound like a ninja librarian, huh?

Piano in the Kent LibraryBut it’s not all work and no play, how about there’s a piano on my floor of the library? Apparently, during the semester, students, faculty and staff are allowed to reserve time for piano playing and they totally rock out. I’ve been told that there’ve even been a couple of impromptu jam sessions. I cannot wait. But you know what the best part is? The piano is right next to the Kent Coffee Café!

Where did your shoes take you this week?
