Where Bloggers Live: My Place of Work
I’m the director of library services at a community college in Louisiana. For the most part, I like what I do. I enjoy helping students and collaborating with the instructors. I’m an introvert, so I sometimes get overwhelmed with all of the peopling that I have to do. During those times, I usually go sit in my car to decompress. Or take walks around the campus. We recently moved into a new building and, y’all, it’s pretty impressive. Along with being the director of library services, I also handle the social media for the college, so I was able to get a front row seat to the construction. Watching the…

Black Bow Flats {Shoe Style Saturday}
Black Bow Flats: Kmart Yesterday ended my first week at the library. While some things are still pretty new, in many ways it feels like I’ve always been there. Don’t you just love when you ease into a new place and instantly feel comfortable? Most of this week was spent with housekeeping ~ enrolling in benefits, getting my email set up, cleaning up my office, etc. Next week, I hope to actually get into the business of running my department ~ getting some training, finding out exactly what everyone in my department does, etc. Oh, you don’t know what I do? Well, my title is “Library Associate” but what I…

First Day Jitters Instagram Style {In the Library}
Today was my first day at my new job. I was so incredibly nervous. The day began with me standing in front of my closet desperately trying to figure out what to wear… I ended up going with a pair of black flats with a bow on the toe. I wasn’t sure how much walking I’d be doing and the campus has a lot of hills. I was happy with my choice, I totally ended up doing a lot of walking. In the hot Missouri sun. I would’ve been miserable if my feet had hurt too. I work as a librarian at the Kent Library at Southeast Missouri State University. It…

Round 8 {Library Day in the Life Project}
Once again, my friend Bobbi at Librarian by Day is coordinating the Library Day in the Life Project. The Library Day in the Life Project is a semi~annual librarian and library worker share fest. In other words, librarians and library workers from all over the world (and I do mean all over the world) share a day or a week in their lives with each other. It’s a chance to exchange ideas, share projects and talk about the different jobs within libraries. I’ve participated in the Library Day in the Life Project whenever I’ve had the opportunity because I believe deeply that libraries provide vital services for the communities they…

10 Books in 10 Weeks: A Summer Reading Challenge
I’m almost certain PBG over at Dirty Pretty Thangs didn’t mean for her post, 10 Books in 10 Weeks: Our Summer Reading Challenge to become a challenge beyond her own household but it did. I’m joining her for 10 Books in 10 Weeks, which began for her on 20 June and will end on Labor Day. Since I’m a couple of days late ain’t that always the case with me? I’ma start the challenge just as soon as I get home from work today and go from there. My four choices for 28 June to 20 July are: My four choices for 21 July to 21 August are: My two choices for 22…

Loose Threads and Other Random Thoughts
1. Our dog, Squeekerz, has a bad attitude. I suspect it’s because the kids named him “Squeekerz” and because they keep dressing him up like he’s a toy. That’s him in the picture with Miss 15, you can’t see it but his eyes are screaming “Help me!” When he was little, they used to dress him up in doll clothes… 2. Next week begins Finals’ Week at the college. I can’t believe I’ve been working at the library for a semester already. It went by so fast. I remember when I started, I wasn’t sure if I was going to make a connection with any of the students but last…

What Do You Think of the New Facebook Fan Page Profile?
Remember a few weeks ago when Facebook rolled out the new profile pages for its users and everyone was upset about some of the features, namely the row of pictures plastered across the top of the page? Well, guess what? Now Facebook has rolled out pretty much the same new profile page for fan pages as well. Here are some of the changes I noticed to the new profile: 1. The most recent photos posted to the wall or that have been tagged by the page owner form a “banner” across the top of the page. Photos posted by fans don’t appear in the stream. A nice way to highlight…

Library Day in the Life Round 6 Reflection
First of all, I’d like to thank Bobbi at Librarian by Day for putting the Library Day in the Life Project together. The first time I participated in this meme was back in 2008 when I was blogging at Curious Child’s Library Wanderings. I remember I was able to keep track of everyone’s posts and comment here and there, this year whew it has been crazy! Now I know why, according to Bobbi’s reflection post there were just under 250 people signed up on the wiki and about 800 participants on Twitter. That is wild! Congratulations, Bobbi, you should be proud of what you’ve done. I learned so much from reading…

Library Day in the Life Project Round 6
The 6th round of the Library Day in the Life Project is hosted by Bobbi at Librarian by Day and will begin on Monday, 24 January. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you all and reading about the lives of my fellow librarians. My hope is that by participating in this project that you all will see how vital library services are to your communities and that you will step forward and allow your voices to be heard when government officials consider slashing services. Day 25: My Day in Great Detail
Be prepared to be incredibly bored…. 06:15 Wake up 06:30 Drive the kids to the bus stop 06:35~07:00 Watch a variety of news programs; I start with Fox News, flip to CNN then land on The Daily Buzz (Fox bothers me because of the political and familial nepotism, CNN rocks it out with their music snippets but I get bored with the small talk) 07:00~08:00 Watch The Early Show; during an Estee Lauder commercial I’m reminded again of the wonder and whimsy that is Regina Specktor’s voice. 08:00~08:30 Watch All in the Family ~ that show is classic, the humor dead on and the topics still applicable today. 08:30~10:30 Go…
