Random Saturday
1. Today we were finally able to celebrate Miss 15’s birthday. We had cupcakes and ice cream. Her mother lacks creativity and baking skills so we ate store~bought cupcakes. 2. Thursday morning the kids came running into the house screaming and whooping “School is cancelled! School is cancelled!” So I hopped up out the bed to find out why. It snowed. Seriously guys, don’t wake me for less than 2 feet. And don’t cancel school for less than a foot. 3. This week’s Project 52 2012 Edition theme was “fashion”. You’d think this would have been easy for me given the bags, shoes, jewelry and cosmetics that I have in…

Pioneer Market Fruits & Vegetables {This or That Thursday}
I big puffy heart fresh fruits and vegetables. Seriously, nothing compares to fresh produce. Especially produce from a locally owned store. So I was beyond thrilled when I discovered Pioneer Market Fruits & Vegetables just down the street from my house. The first time I went in, I was little hesitant (I always am when I go to a new place, especially in a small town) so I picked up a couple of apples and some strawberries and scurried out without talking to anyone. The second time I went in, I knew I wanted to get more of, well, just about everything. So Miss 18 and I browsed the shelves…

Tell a Stranger’s Story {Project52.org Assignment 2}
Since moving from our home in Pennsylvania to Missouri, whenever my daughter and I get a chance to explore our new surrounds, we do. We discovered a fruit and vegetable store run by a local family that’s just down the street from our house. The two ladies are the store owner’s granddaughter’s, Shelby and Kelly, who were working there at the time. Not only did they allow me to take their pictures but they allowed me photograph their store and they gave me a log of smoked cheddar cheese in exchange for the advertising. How cool is that?

Tag! I’m It
Remember when you were a kid and you used to play “Tag”? So. Much. Fun. Well, now I’m playing the grown~up bloggy version of “Tag”. Someone tags you and then you have to answer a series of questions and then tag other folks. Unlike in elementary school, I’ve been tagged by two people: Lisa from It Keeps Getting Better {if you haven’t visited her blog, you really ought to, she has the most adorable children ever} and Stacy from A Life Well Lived {if you need inspiration, I recommend adding her to your reader}. Because I was tagged by two people, I’m combining the rules and the questions. I’m a rule…

Brussels Sprouts, Squash and Whole Wheat Pasta {Meatless Monday}
The hubs and I have been eating a pretty much vegetarian meal for the last week and can I tell you how good we feel? Leading up to the week, the hubs was grumbling about the prospect of giving up his beloved steaks and I was dreading giving up coffee. And there were the haunting memories of my last vegan experience when I wanted to eat my children because I was so starved for meat. But this time it was easier. Anyway, during the course of the week, the hubs and I have discovered some recipes that we really enjoy, so I decided to share them with you. I don’t…

Random Saturday and a Winner
1. My baby is 15 today. My plan was to ignore her until the exact time of her birth, except no one can remember what time she was born. I remember 2 things from that day: Yelling “Get it out of me!” Obviously, no drugs were involved in the delivery of this child Turning to the hubs while he was doing that Lamaze breathing and hissing “What the *$%# are you counting for?” 2. We tried a pomelo today. Have you ever had one of those? It looks like a giant green grapefruit and has a similar citrusy taste. I sliced it length wise and tried to eat it that…

Moss Covered Tree Trunk {Shoot. Edit. Submit.}
This is probably my favorite picture from my photo walk this week. I dunno, there’s something about fallen trees and moss… I want to know what felled the tree. Was it a bad storm? Did the tree rot? And how long did it take the moss to grow? I know, my thoughts are completely random but what are you gonna do? These are the things that go through my head… I’m linking up with Misty and Kim for Shoot. Edit. Submit. To join in the fun, all you have to do is: Photo must be taken this week (Saturday ~ Friday) Only one entry per person “Shoot. Edit. Submit.” button…

Cape Girardeau Conservation Center {This or That Thursday}
After running some errands, Miss 18 and I decided to stop by the Conservation Center and go for a walk. I love it there. It’s so peaceful and quiet. Well, you know, except when you get down in the woods and you hear stuff moving amongst the trees but you don’t see anything. That’s kinda freaky. And Miss 18 didn’t help with all the jumping and screaming she was doing. Still I managed to get some great pictures… In her defense, I did my fair share of jumping too, but I was the one on the ground with the spiders that she kept pointing out to me. And, nope, there…

Who Am I {Project52.org Assignment One}
This year I decided to challenge myself and participate in a 52 week course that’s hosted by Project52.org. I’m no where near the skill level of the other participants but the only way to get better is to challenge yourself, right? So that’s my intention ~ to push myself to be better. The first assignment is to write a vision statement identifying how we see ourselves as photographers and what we’d like to do with our photography. I’m a librarian by training, so naturally I see people as books, each with their own story to tell… People are books ~ some of their covers are worn with use, others are…
