Fab Forties: Inspired by Earth
As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.
I want to take this opportunity to express my love and gratitude for those who gave their lives in defense of this nation. My heart and prayers are with the families and friends of those American heroes.
This week begins our short week/long hour days at work. I’m not really ready, y’all. From now until the first week of August, we work 4 ten-hour days. Fortunately, I have the opportunity to break my days up because I work on a variety of projects during the summer. For example, this month our college is celebrating Industrial Manufacturing Month, so I’ll be visiting our campuses taking pictures of our manufacturing students and talking to them about the electronic resources offered by the library. If you’d like to see some of the pictures that I take for the college, you can see them here.
About the Fab Forties
The Fab Forties is a group of style bloggers from around the globe who come together once a month to share their common love of fashion. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger, who is also in her forties, to join us. The group’s goal is to take on a style trend and show how we each interpret and incorporate it into our lives. Four different ladies, four different styles, you’re sure to find something that inspires you.
The Theme
This month’s theme is “Inspired by Earth” and was a collaborative effort from all of the ladies. We’ve decided, at Shelbee’s suggestion, to explore all of the elements, so make sure you stay tuned for the rest of the series.
MY LOOK
I’m wearing the cutest little navy Mary Jane wedges, which made me think of the deep sea. My tweed pants are an interesting mix of browns and blacks with flecks of cream, like soil. And the top is a striking shade of blue that mimics the sky. I thought the embroidery looked like flowers springing up from the ground. The green bag is, you guessed it, grass.
I absolutely love all things embroidered. Even when I know they’re mass produced pieces, I’m still drawn to them. I like them because of the handmade feel and boho vibe. That being said, sometimes making embroidered pieces work appropriate can be a tad difficult. So, when wearing to work, I always pair my embroidered pieces with traditionally conservative pieces. Don’t Forget to Visit My Co-Hosts
Ada, Elegance and Mommyhood – Everyday Life+Style, an Adorable Girl named Vivian, Poetry and more…
How cute is Ada’s romper? I love the colors and the ruffled edge. Just cute. And the pops of color with the bag and the shoes are oh-so-perfect. I’m also digging the earrings and the sunnies.
Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge – Rediscover your edge
It’s so funny that Shelbee chose to wear overalls for this month’s theme because I came thisclose to wearing mine. However, mine aren’t as cute as hers. I love love love the shorts version. And with those wicked tie-dye boots too – such a perfect match for her cardigan {librarians always notice the cardi}
Suzy, The Grey Brunette – Happily giving the finger to ageism!
Graphic tees are my jam and this one is just cute! I love the sexy but playful vibe of the tee. And those pants are super cute — I like the color and the cuff. But look at those shoes! Even though they’re a neutral, they pop. I’m also digging that cuff.
