ABOUT THE FAB FORTIES
The Fab Forties is a group of five style bloggers from around the globe who come together once a month to share their common love of fashion. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger, who is also in her forties, to join us. The group’s goal is to take on a style trend and show how we each interpret and incorporate it into our lives. Six different ladies, six different styles, you’re sure to find something that inspires you.
The Theme
Our theme for this month was chosen by Sheela from Sheela Writes. When I heard the theme for this month, it took me back to the one and only time I was ever sent home because of what I was wearing. I’d purchased the cutest little brown and pink plaid shorts suit with a pale pink button up shirt and brown pumps. I was soooo excited about the suit. The shorts were not really shorts, more of a capri length {I’d never wear shorts to work unless it was a pre-authorized event}. Anyway, I got to work and everyone was like “Oh, how cute!” I had one of my cameos on with a string of faux pearls. I was seriously feeling myself. Then my supervisor saw me. She gave me the up-down {you know that look}, called me into her office, and told me to go home and change. When my coworkers found out, they were livid. Especially since there was a well endowed woman who worked the front desk and rarely wore a bra. She was allowed to stay. Bra less.
My Outfit
I wasn’t sure what I was going to wear for this month’s theme. I mean, I have a really cute romper that would’ve worked: a black one that would be cute for an outdoor work dinner or something along those lines but it’s long sleeves and a girl was not trying to sweat. LOL Then this blouse arrived in the mail and I was like YES!
I saw this top on Amazon and immediately fell head over heels. Y’all know I love myself an embroidered top – they just look so unique and expensive {even when they’re not}. Usually, I’d wear a cami under a blouse like this but I’m trying to be a bit less conservative in my dress {especially when I’m out with The Hubs}. I like knowing I can still turn his head…
If you notice, I’m wearing two different necklaces in the pictures. I couldn’t decide which one I liked best. Granted, because of the heavy embroidery, a necklace really isn’t needed but I like all of the dimension and interest that it adds.
I decided to keep things clean with a pair of simple white Bermuda shorts. The material is stretchy and not see through {I still wore flesh colored panties, because duh}.
My Co-Hosts

Dee {Dee Sayz}
This is such a chic combination. It almost looks like a column dress with a cardigan, right? And, seriously, black and white is such a classic combination, that it hits all the right notes.
Jennie {A Pocketful of Polka Dots}
Jennie wasn’t able to join us this month, but I’m sure she’ll have a really cute outfit posted on her blog if you want to take a look.
Sheela {Sheela Writes}
Sheela’s outfit is so very funky! Pinstripes, a pop of color, and fabulous shoes? Every heart eye ever sent is going to out to Sheela.
Shelbee {Shelbee on the Edge}
I’m loving Shelbee’s romper with a blazer look. Super chic and incredibly sexy, don’t you think? And that beret is just plain fun.
Suzy {Pixie Chick in Portugal}
Suzy’s outfit is super cute and oh so fun. I can so see the ladies in our Student Services Department wearing this outfit during one of our school events. Love it.

Are you allowed to wear shorts to work? I’m not, but I love the idea of dressing up a pair shorts. If you do too, check out my Pinterest board here.
