Chain Link {This or That Thursday}
This week’s theme for the 365 Project: 2013 Edition is “Minimalism”. I’ve had a lot of fun with this particular theme because it’s challenging to focus on a single object and still try to tell a story. My inclination when trying to capture an image is to get as much into the picture as possible, this challenge has forced me to pay attention to color, detail and cropping. I’ve also tried not to do much editing, other than a bit of sharpening and, of course, cropping. You can see the rest of my images from the 365 Project: 2013 Edition by clicking here. I’m linking up with Deb for This…

Life {My Word for the Year}
I’ll be turning 40 in March, this has been a difficult thing for me to accept. Forty has always symbolized something I never wanted to be: old. please read that word with the appropriate amount of shuddering and nose crinkling I remember looking at the forty~something~year~old women of my youth and thinking they were looking at me with something that bordered on pity, mingled with contempt, and tinged with jealousy. And they looked frumpy. Looking back, I realize that was just my own youthful misperception of grown women. In reality, they weren’t paying me or my silliness any attention. As for looking dowdy, everyone in the 80s and 90s looked…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
1. It’s no secret that I absolutely positively hate birds and cats. Birds because they fly over head and are, um, inconsiderate. And cats because of that jumping thing they do. Well, I’ve found out that I’m in good company. Apparently Zach Randolph of the Grizzlies hates cats too. Fist bump, dude, they are some scary critters. He doesn’t like the scratching, I don’t like the jumping. It’s like we were separated at birth. 2. I know art is subjective buuuut…. I think this is stupid. A performance artist in China stripped down to his skivvies, hung three roasted chickens across a plank that was tied to his back and…

Today I’m Whining {This or That Thursday}
The above picture is from my 365 Project. This week’s theme is monochrome and I thought this perfectly captured my mood for the day week. You can see my other pictures by clicking here. This has been the longest week ever. I’ve been sick with the flu. Not fun at all. Today I was supposed to begin my monthly self portraits in anticipation of my 40th birthday on 10 March but the last thing I want is a picture of me with tissue smooshed up to my nose. Yes, I’m whining. And you know why? Because women so rarely get the chance to do it. We get sick and we…

Happy Birthday, Miss 16 {In the Family Room}
Dear Miss 16, Girl, you have been a source of joy and laughter since the day you surprised us at the doctor’s office. Nothing like going to the doctor’s for a tubal ligation and finding out that you’re pregnant… We should have known then that we were going to be in for a ride. I remember when you used to crawl up in my lap, curl your fingers around my blouse and go to sleep. I’d sit there for hours, stroking your hair and wishing you’d get up so I could get something anything done. Then one day it all stopped. You stopped sitting in my lap, you stopped being…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
Hi, if you’re a regular reader you know that on Fridays I write a little post that I like to call “Things That Leave Me Scratchin’ My Head”. It’s all about the crazy stuff that I’ve read on the web or heard about on TV during the week. After writing that post for a year, I’ve learned one thing: there is a never ending stream of bizarre among the human race. And I love us for that. With the new year I’ve decided to do a little revamping of these posts. The only things I’ve changed are the title and the picture. I like to think of these posts as…

Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2013! I’m so excited about the possibilities that come with a new year. It’s almost like life is giving us some sort of cosmic do over. And boy do I need it! I missed some of my goals for last year but I’m pressing forward and not dwelling on the past. I hope that you’ll continue to share this journey with me and that you’re just as excited for 2013 as I am… I began today much like I do any other day, with a cup of coffee. This is how I prepare myself for the day’s activities: a cup of coffee and a few minutes of silence. And…

Chicken Noodle Soup with Cheddar Drop Biscuits {On the Table}
Have you ever roasted two whole chickens because your family swore up and down they were starving and then they only ate like half of one so you’re left with all of this chicken and you’re thinking what do I do with this? That’s what happened to me last week. I had one and a half delicious fresh roasted chickens sitting in my fridge; I didn’t want to toss it and I wasn’t in the mood for more roasted chicken. So I started thinking and thinking and thinking and it hit me: Chicken Noodle Soup. And a side of Cheddar Drop Biscuits. My family was all kinds of excited and…

December Photo A Day {Instagram}
Day 22: Decoration A Christmas ornament that I received during the ornament exchange for the ladies at might church. Right now it’s hanging on my door knob because we didn’t decorate this year. Lazy. Day 23: Joy is _______ Hanging with my daughters. They make me laugh like crazy. The boy is OK too. {from the vault} Day 24: Tradition/Something I always do I love grinding my own beans for my morning coffee. There’s something therapeutic about that whirring sound. Day 25: Lunchtime The girls and I decided to bake cookies on Christmas afternoon. They were, uh, edible. But we had a ton of fun. Notice the boy isn’t around…

Things That Leave Me Scratchin’ My Head {Coffee Talk}
Wow! Y’all, this is the last Friday of 2012. Is that crazy or what? I just want to take this time to thank all of you for hanging in there with me for the past year. I enjoy reading your comments on my blog, talking with you on Facebook, and sharing our lives on Instagram. I’ve celebrated with some of you as you’ve added to your families and I’ve cried with others of you as you’ve lost loved ones. You’ve wished me well with all the changes in my life and laughed with me when I’ve had moments of silly. We’ve been through a lot this year and I thank…
