A Day in My Life in Pictures

The other day, I read a guest post on i heart faces by Jason Zimmerman about how to capture a day in your life using pictures.  I absolutely loved his pictures and decided to give it a try.  My pictures didn’t come out as great, interesting or fascinating as his did but it’s my life and I love it.  And um, capturing a day in your life in photographs is harder than I thought. I took over 100 pictures using my GE X500, a tripod and cell phone.  At the end of the day, I narrowed it down to 62 images.  Then I uploaded them to my computer and began…

    There’s No Place Like Home

Oh, Dorothy, truer words have never been spoken… We finally made it home at 9:45 last night.  To read the beginning of this journey, go here, I’ll wait...  Well, no, we made it to Wilkes~Barre, Pennsylvania at 9:45, we didn’t make it to our house until after 10:30.  Yes, a journey that started at 6 AM (3:30 if you count the wake up at the hotel) ended at 10 something last night. So why were we trapped in the black hole of airports also known as O’Hare International?  A weather delay.  Personally, I’m started to think the whole delay in Chicago thing is a conspiracy, it’s a test of patience,…

Oh the Places We Won’t Go

If you follow me on Facebook, you know that the hubs and I have been having a heck of a time getting back home to Pennsylvania…  Right now, as I type this, we are stuck in the inner thigh of airports ~ Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.  I know, right? Look at me blogging from the airport ’cause I’m all I wanna share my adventures in real time with my bloggy friends.  We’ve been in transit since 6 this morning, it’s now 3:56 PM and I’m no closer to getting home than I was when I was curled up on the bed at the hotel.  But before I get to the…

    Loose Threads and Random Thoughts

I promise I haven’t given up writing for capturing souls with that magic box, it’s just that I’ve been busy taxiing kids, touring Missouri and trying to keep all the other knives that I juggle up in the air.  Really, motherhood is not easy. 1.  I’ve been in Missouri since Thursday ~ flew in first class…  So.  Much.  Leg.  Room.  Our flight attendant was hilarious, swore up and down people tell him he looks like Denzel Washington. Ummm, he was about 5′ 8″ and balding.  But he made me laugh. 2.  I finally got to see my sister’s baby for the first time in 8 months.  Ohmygosh, talk about heart…

Loose Threads and Other Random Thoughts

1.On Friday I received a beautiful ‘Heart of Haiti’ pendant in the mail in exchange for a post that I’d written on behalf of Macy’s, as I read the thank you letter, I couldn’t help but to cry thinking about the artisans who create the pendants.  These are women who create handmade works of art to support themselves and their children.  Items range in price from about $8 to about $280.  I’m not receiving any compensation for this, I just think this is a terrific cause. 2.  I bribe my kids.  People often ask me how I managed to have such well behaved kids and that’s the answer, I bribe…

    The Handwriting Meme

It’s so funny that I stumbled across this meme on Allie’s blog, Wardrobe Oxygen, because Miss 17 and I were just talking about how writing is becoming a lost art.  Seriously, when I teach classes at the college, I just want to dedicate a couple of classes to writing basics ~ you know, mostly how to write so that I can read what the student has written.  As much as I love technology, I hate what it has done to penmanship. My mother taught me how to print and my father taught me how to write in cursive.  My mother is left handed, I’m right handed.  This was no easy…

Day 30: My Hopes, Dreams and Plans for the Next 365 Days

This is the time of year when people start writing resolutions and planning to make big changes for the new year and, I can’t lie, I tend to do the same thing.  So writing this post should come easy but it doesn’t.  Every year I make grand plans and, for the most part, I do a good job of following through.  Until March.  I don’t know why, but March is my “quitting month.” So this year, rather than writing out a list of resolutions, I will share my hopes, dreams and plans for the next 365 days (with the knowledge that, ultimately, everything is in His hands and it is…

Day 22: Websites I Enjoy When I Need to Revisit My Youth

I’m such a retro chick.  I love TV Land and Nick at Nite, especially when they go old school and air shows like All in the Family, Maude, The Jeffersons, Good Times.  In fact, I try to find ways to work retro TV shows and music into just about every class I teach.  Those shows dealt with topics such as abortion, rape, death, homosexuality, aging, racism and economic woes with more depth, humor and intelligence than many of the shows on air today.  Anyway, two websites that help to feed my flashback needs are Hulu and YTTM. Hulu allows you to watch television shows (both old and new), I use…

    Do You Have “Couple Friends”?

Do you remember that episode of “King of Queens” when Carrie and Doug lose Deacon and Kelly to another couple who has kids so they spend the entire episode trying to find a replacement couple?  Well, Tony and I have been trying to find that couple for years now. Ok, maybe I haven’t been actively participating in the search but Tony has done his fair share of couple scouting.  And he finally hit the jackpot a couple of nights ago… There are these two couples from his job that we’ve been trying to get together with for a couple of months now but due to scheduling conflicts, someone always had…
