Pioneer Market Fruits & Vegetables {This or That Thursday}
I big puffy heart fresh fruits and vegetables. Seriously, nothing compares to fresh produce. Especially produce from a locally owned store. So I was beyond thrilled when I discovered Pioneer Market Fruits & Vegetables just down the street from my house. The first time I went in, I was little hesitant (I always am when I go to a new place, especially in a small town) so I picked up a couple of apples and some strawberries and scurried out without talking to anyone. The second time I went in, I knew I wanted to get more of, well, just about everything. So Miss 18 and I browsed the shelves…

This or That Thursday {Getting to Know Missouri}
Two days ago, while out driving with Miss 18, I got a little lost and ended up in a town called Burfordville. Burfordville is a sleepy little historic town which boasts one of Missouri’s few remaining covered bridges as well as a mill that was built in 1800, damaged during the Civil War and later rebuilt. If you’d like to read more about the Bollinger Mill Historic Site, you can click here (there are also some pretty sweet pictures of the mill and the bridge). While wandering around, my daughter and I noticed a little antique shop and decided to look around. The owner was gracious enough to allow me to…

Bollinger Mill Historic Site {Getting to Know Missouri}
I’ve said it before, but I have the navigation skills of a monkey in a windstorm. I used to be able to drive myself across state lines without so much as a map, gps or cell phone without getting lost, now I spend 85% of my time listening to that infernal “Recalculating” over and over and over again. The rest of the time is spent laughing at the fact that I can get lost driving in a straight line. So as it usually happens when Miss 18 and I get in the car, we got lost. I don’t know how or why but she and I always get lost when…

A Visit to the Art Gallery and Museum {Getting to Know Missouri}
Yesterday, Miss 18 called me up and asked if I wanted to hang out. Immediately my spidey senses started tingling. Parents, you know how it is when your teenage kid calls you up out of the blue and asks if you want to hang out, your first thought is how much is it gonna cost me? So I asked all the important questions and deduced that she needed a ride to the Art Gallery to complete an assignment for her class. I keep trying to tell her, this is more than just a pretty face… After getting lost, we arrived at the gallery and were immediately rewarded with the scent…

This or That Thursday #NaBloPoMo
This week has been spent learning how to use Nia, my new Nikon D3100. I have to admit, I was a bit intimidated by all the settings but the Guide setting has made it so easy to figure out what I’m doing. I’ve practiced using the Automatic, Guide and Manual settings and I’m pretty impressed with the quality of all of the photos, but I also see that I have a long way to go but here are a few of my shots from this week: My dog, Squeekerz… This was taken at my house using the flash and overhead lighting, I also used the Macro setting Night Scene I…

My Place of Refuge #NaBloPoMo
Describe a favorite place. Focus on how that place affects your sense of taste, touch, sight, sound or smell. ~ Adrienne McDonnell {Guest Prompt} I walk down a leaf strewn path, the sounds of birds, insects and random unseen animals fill the air, my camera is at the ready… Over time, the leaves have gone from deep greens to varying shades of gold and red to deep purples and soft browns… I have been here many times over the last few weeks. I come here to think, to relax, to enjoy nature but mostly, I come here to take pictures and just be. This is the Cape Girardeau Conservation Center,…

Wordless Wednesday: Smile You’re on Camera
Someone painted “Smile, your on camera” on the side of the barn. So I stopped, smiled and made sure it was on camera. You can see more of my photographic efforts by clicking here to see my Flickr stream… I’m linking up with Erin at Slice o’ Heaven (click here to join the Wordless Wednesday fun), Mimi from Woven by Words (click here to hit the link), and 5 Minutes for Mom (click here to see more Wordless Wednesday posts from around the web).

Loose Threads and Random Thoughts
Do you like taking pictures? I’m not talking about just snapping pictures of your kids while they’re little so you can remember how sweet they used to be once they become teens? I mean, do you carry your camera everywhere you go? I do. I love snapping pictures and playing with the various editing tools. I’ve even joined a couple of photography challenges. This fall I’ll be joining up with Kristi and her crew for the Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge. For more information, go here. If you decide to join up, let me know in the comments. Last night I had the worst case of insomnia. Ever. I suspect…

Getting to Know Missouri: Cape Girardeau Southside Park
One of the things that first struck me when the hubs and I visited Missouri for the first time was incredible amount of parks ~ 2 large parks, 1 water park and a series of smaller community parks. Not only were there a lot of parks but just about every square inch was covered with families involved in some sort of activity. I’d never seen anything like it before. And clean. The parks were so incredibly clean. Yesterday, I had a chance to go over to the Southside Park in Cape Girardeau and take some pictures. At the time, some construction and cleaning crews were in the park doing some…
