Getting to Know Missouri {This or That Thursday}
How’s everyone doing? I’m OK, haven’t had much of an opportunity to get out and shoot anything so I’m sharing a few more pictures from last week’s trip to the Bollinger Mill Historic site… One of the main attractions at the Bollinger Mill Historic Site is the Burfordville Covered Bridge, the oldest covered bridge in Missouri. I absolutely love this bridge and could spend hours photographing it. Isn’t it gorgeous? The bridge spans the Whitewater River and is built mainly of Yellow Poplar. Construction began on the bridge in 1858 by Joseph Lansmon. The photo above is part of the ceiling, showing how the iron rods are used to support…

Bollinger Mill Historic Site {This or That Thursday}
I drove out to the Bollinger Mill Historic Site last week and had a fun time roaming around and taking pictures of everything. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, it was just one of those days that begged to captured and remembered. I love old abandoned homes, there’s something mysterious about them. I want to know who lived in the house, why they left it… Despite the “Open” sign hanging on the front door, the Old Mill Store looked as if it had been abandoned many years ago. This is the side of the mill, isn’t it beautiful? It was built in the 1800s and ran until the…

March Photo~A~Day {This or That Thursday}
Longest week. Ever. My kid is still away from the nest so I’m on pins and needles until she returns. You know how it is when it’s your kids first time away from home… And if you don’t know, trust me, it’ll happen. Thankfully, I have the antics of my other kids to keep me laughing. And, of course, the hubs is here to talk me off the ledge. But, mostly, I’ve been relying on various photography challenges to keep my mind occupied. It’s a good thing I’m distracted by shiny… To see a larger version, please click here These are my photos from 8~14 March. The prompts were: Window…

Randomness {This or That Thursday}
Has this week flown by or what? I’m trying to remember what I could have done to make it go by so quickly but, yeah, I got nothing. Maybe it’s just that I’m getting older and time flies… I’m finally starting to branch out and get a little more creative with my self portraits. It’s nice to do more than take pictures of my face. Thank you, Creators of Photoshop. Do you see all those buttons? Aren’t they pretty? I originally bought them to use as accessories on scarves that I crochet but I’ve stopped crocheting so now I have a ton of buttons just sitting in a drawer. I’m…

A Photography Tip {This or That Thursday}
Today’s photo tip {as if I’m a professional or something} is to watch your background. I was playing with using natural light and absolutely love the halo that was produced from the bright sun pouring through the windows. But… Do you see the vase of flowers that has sprung from the top of my head? Yeah, totally should have moved that out of the way before taking the picture. In the second picture, I switched locations because I wanted to try to get that aura again and see what would happen if I just shifted slightly. I kinda like the side light too. I also think that the background is…

Against the Wall {This or That Thursday}
This week I hit a brick wall creatively. All the photography memes have fallen to the wayside. And I have nothing left to say. I don’t know if it’s seasonal melancholy. What happened to the springlike weather I was bragging about just last week? Or if I just need to put the camera down and walk away from my blog for a week or two but I’m drawing a blank. Have you ever had a moment when your brain was absolutely positively blank? How did you get your creative juices flowing again? I’m linking up with Deb from Deb Duty Photography for This or That Thursday. If you’d like to…

Afternoon at the Park {This or That Thursday}
Today I decided to escape the confines of the house and go to the park… The weather was absolutely beautiful… I had some unexpected company… Being that I’m afraid of birds, I cut my visit short and headed home. I’m linking up with Deb from Deb Duty Photography for This or That Thursday. If you’d like to participate, here are the rules: Submit the URL of your blog post, not your blog Link up to a photo that was taken by you Include a link back to Deb’s blog post {either a text link or the button} Visit a few other blogs and leave some comment love How was your…

Pears {This or That Thursday}
I spent a little bit of time playing with some fruit that I had laying around the house. Truth be told, I should be eating it instead of photographing it because it’s like thisclose to going bad, but I couldn’t resist the pretty colors. Did I tell you that I get distracted by shiny? Well, apparently I get distracted by pretty colored food too. I’m also experimenting with Photoshop in preparation for next month’s One in Thirty Photography Challenge, you can read about it here. I didn’t realize how much fun it could be. I mean, I’ve tweaked stuff using Photoshop but learning to manipulate stuff is both fun and…

Squeekerz {This or That Thursday}
This week I’ve been working on shooting in Manual. I’m not sure if these pictures are technically “all that” but I do like them because, well, they’re fun. Our dog, Squeekerz, spent many years in the Witness Protection Program and never allowed me to take his picture, now he’s all stopping and posing for me. Translation: the dog used to be afraid of the shutter sound and now that he’s used to it, he gets the canine equivalent of giddy whenever he sees the camera. Trust me, that’s his happy face. We also suspect that Squeekerz spent some time in the military because he does a lot of low crawling.…

Pioneer Market Fruits & Vegetables {This or That Thursday}
I big puffy heart fresh fruits and vegetables. Seriously, nothing compares to fresh produce. Especially produce from a locally owned store. So I was beyond thrilled when I discovered Pioneer Market Fruits & Vegetables just down the street from my house. The first time I went in, I was little hesitant (I always am when I go to a new place, especially in a small town) so I picked up a couple of apples and some strawberries and scurried out without talking to anyone. The second time I went in, I knew I wanted to get more of, well, just about everything. So Miss 18 and I browsed the shelves…
