    House Hunting, What are Our Priorities Again?

    A few weeks ago, the hubs and I went to Missouri on what the company calls a “predetermination trip”, which basically means that we went to the area and checked it out before the hubs accepted the position.  We were in the Cape Girardeau/Jackson area and absolutely fell in love.  Never have I seen a more family friendly area ~ parks, shopping, restaurants (if you ever get around those parts, go to The Branding Iron ~ the ribs will make you slap your momma, they’re so good), etc.  But I digress… While we were there, the hubs and I decided to do a little bit of house hunting, you know,…

    Congratulations to the Newest P&G Manager {In the Family Room}

    Today the hubs is officially a manager at Proctor & Gamble.  And the kids and I couldn’t be prouder of him and his accomplishments. When the hubs and I got out of the Army 15 years ago, we didn’t know what we were going to do or how we were going to support ourselves, the only thing we knew was that our family had to stay together.  We decided to move to the hub’s hometown in Pennsylvania.  He’ll dispute this factoid but our intended term was for a period of no more than 5 years; we’ve been here for 15 years… At the time, I was pregnant with baby number…

    There’s No Place Like Home

    Oh, Dorothy, truer words have never been spoken… We finally made it home at 9:45 last night.  To read the beginning of this journey, go here, I’ll wait...  Well, no, we made it to Wilkes~Barre, Pennsylvania at 9:45, we didn’t make it to our house until after 10:30.  Yes, a journey that started at 6 AM (3:30 if you count the wake up at the hotel) ended at 10 something last night. So why were we trapped in the black hole of airports also known as O’Hare International?  A weather delay.  Personally, I’m started to think the whole delay in Chicago thing is a conspiracy, it’s a test of patience,…

    Oh the Places We Won’t Go

    If you follow me on Facebook, you know that the hubs and I have been having a heck of a time getting back home to Pennsylvania…  Right now, as I type this, we are stuck in the inner thigh of airports ~ Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.  I know, right? Look at me blogging from the airport ’cause I’m all I wanna share my adventures in real time with my bloggy friends.  We’ve been in transit since 6 this morning, it’s now 3:56 PM and I’m no closer to getting home than I was when I was curled up on the bed at the hotel.  But before I get to the…

    Switched at Birth: What Would You Do?

    Did you watch Switched at Birth?  The show premiered Monday night on ABC Family.  Seriously, ABC Family has been airing some pretty decent shows.  I hope this show finds the same success as The Secret Life of the American Teenager because this show has real potential.  It stars D.W. Moffett and Lea Thompson as John and Kathryn Kennish who find out that their daughter was switched at birth with the daughter of Regina Vasquez, played by Constance Marie.  The first episode centered around the families getting to know each other and the girls trying to find their place within their new families.  At several points, the Kennishes push the boundaries and occasionally…

    There Shall be No More Weeping…

    Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. I apologize for not posting this sooner but I’m with family and friends who have gathered to say “good bye” to my aunt, Sylvia, who lost her battle with breast cancer.  This has been both a time of sadness and rejoicing.  While we’re sad that my aunt had to leave her family and friends, we rejoice in the knowledge that her suffering has ended and she has gone home to be with the Lord. Today as I sat through…

    Happy Mother’s Day

    This morning my kids did something they’ve never done before ~ they made me breakfast.  In bed. I got up because I heard Squeekerz scratching at my door, not because he really wanted to be in my room but because he wanted to be away from the kids.  Have I mentioned that our dog hates everyone in the family unless they have bread or Girl Scouts cookies ~ preferably the shortbreads but he’s been known to pilfer a Tagalong or two?  Anyway, I got up to open the door and the dog came charging into the room at full speed as only a half Chihuahua half Jack Russell Terrier (Jackihuahua?…

    Loose Threads and Other Random Thoughts

    1.  That’s me with Miss 17.  I’m so incredibly proud of her.  I’m also slowly but surely preparing myself to let go as she prepares to go to college.  I will not cry.  On Friday, she and I hung out and did a bit of shopping, eating and talking.  Seeing my daughter grow from a little bean to a young lady has been the most amazing trip.  I’m one of those blessed moms who hasn’t had to go through all the problems that I caused my mother with her teen daughter.  That’s not to say we haven’t had our issues (at 12 she started to lose her mind, at 13…

    Loose Threads and Other Random Thoughts

    Weekends in my house tend to be quiet.  The kids usually go and stay with my mother~in~law pretty much from the minute they step off the bus until we force ask them to come home.  And the hubs either works, races or hangs out with his friends so I’m pretty much left to my own devices, which I love. This weekend, however, was different.  I survived a “man cold”, made a headband and weathered a power outage… Friday I woke up to hear the hubs moaning into the phone “I’m not coming in today” sniff sniff “I don’t feel well” cough cough. Inwardly, I groaned because this didn’t bode well for…

    Family Movie Night: Change of Plans

    Has your life worked out the way you planned?  I know mine sure didn’t.  When I was younger, I thought I’d graduate from high school, go to college and begin a career as a globe~trotting journalist or spy.  Instead, I graduated from high school, joined the Army, got married, had 4 children and became a librarian.  But, you know what, sometimes the most unexpected surprises come when your plans get changed. A few weeks ago, Modern Moms provided me with the opportunity to preview a movie called Change of Plans the next movie in Proctor & Gamble’s and Walmart’s successful Family Movie Night.  What an awesome opportunity!  This movie shows…
