Hi, I know I’m late to the linkup. That seems to be a trend with me when it comes to linkups. One of the reasons I wanted to join this linkup is because I wanted to do something other than style posts. I enjoy the style posts, but I’d like to supplement, ya know? And this is also a fun way to share and get to know a little about each other. LOVING OK, this is a bit of a weird thing but I have been obsessively ordering brownies from Outback Steakhouse at least once a week. I know, I know, I know. I don’t know what it is about…

Where Bloggers Live: My Inspiration
I made the image above many years ago… The Hubs and I were touring an historic home and these sweet little mules and robe were laid out on this vintage fainting sofa and I nearly swooned. One of my favorite Harlem Renaissance novelists is Nella Larsen. NPR has a whole series about her, you can listen/read by clicking here. I’ve read Passing multiple times and am in the process of reading Quicksand. Helga, the heroine in Quicksand, talks about her partiality to opulence and satin and velvets and all things lush… When I saw this set up, I just imagined Helga leaning back, wrist on forehead, fanning herself with a…

20 from 2020: Remembering and Celebrating
I’ve been thinking about the year 2020 a lot. And, like many people, I’m guilty of just blanketing all of 2020 with negativity, when – in fact – this is not true. Yes, there have been some disappointments and I’ve shed more than a few tears this year, but I’ve also laughed a lot. I’ve probably talked to my kids more this year than in previous years since they all moved out of our house. My grandkids have kept us entertained through videos, pictures, and telephone calls. The Hubs and I have cooked more meals together and gotten into a nice little kitchen cleanup routine. And I’ve learned to let…

Where Bloggers Live: My Favorite Things
As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support. Welcome to Where Bloggers Live, this month’s theme is My Favorite Things. I like so many things, it was really hard to narrow it down, so I decided to focus on a few things that I thought you’d enjoy as well. Here they are: August Uncommon – I know I’m known for my coffee drinking, but, in the…

Where Bloggers Live: My Closet
When I first saw this theme, I was like, no one wants to see my closet. I mean, it’s probably the most boring room in my house. Then I took pictures and started trying to explain my organization scheme and I realized y’all are gonna think something is wrong with me. There probably is… Besides the organization, there are two things that I’m pretty insistent on: Wooden hanger for my dresses, pants, and tops Plastic skirt hangers for my skirts Every now and then, The Hubs will put a wire hanger in my closet or move something around to see how long it takes me to notice. It’s immediate. I…

10 on the 10th: School Days
So that’s a picture of me and my twin sister in high school. We were 15 years old at the time. Judging by our outfits, it looks like we were getting ready to go to school. Yes, that’s how we dressed for classes. True story: I had a baseball cap to match the suspenders. My style was heavily influenced by Lisa Bonet’s character, Denise Huxtable, from The Cosby Show. In fact, I’m still inspired by the actual Lisa Bonet. I just think she’s stunning and her style is just so effortless. You can see what I mean by clicking here. THE QUESTIONS & MY ANSWERS What does back to school…

Where Bloggers Live: My Vacations
Hi, and welcome to the next installment of Where Bloggers Live. I hope you’ve had as much fun reading these posts as I have writing them. At first, I was just like, yeah, that’ll be fun, but these posts have made me stop and think about my life, my community, the things I hold dear… Or maybe I’m just getting all hazy from being inside the house for months on end. Who knows? This month’s theme is “Vacation.” I wasn’t sure how I was gonna handle this because we haven’t been on vacation in months. Unless you count going to the grocery store, because, honestly, I do get dressed up…

This Has to End
This post has been edited for clarity of thought, but the original message and intent remains. This has been a tough month and, honestly, I haven’t had the heart, intestinal fortitude, emotional strength, or desire to write anything. All of the words that I would share, all of the feelings I would express, everything has already been put out there. If you’re unsure about how I feel about the televised execution of another Black man or the senseless murder of a Black woman sleeping in her bed, feel free to check out my Facebook page or my Twitter feed. And if you have a differing opinion, my words aren’t going…

Where Bloggers Live: My Outdoor Space
Hi, and welcome to my space. The Hubs and I have lived here about two years now and I’m just now starting to appreciate having an outdoor living space. No, scratch that, being quarantined has made me appreciate having an outdoor living space. We’ve been confined to our house since the middle of March, so the front porch has become our connection to life outside of our house. MY OUTDOOR SPACE Our front porch doesn’t really look out on to much… Just the road through our neighborhood and our neighbor’s house. There are a few squirrels that like to play chase in our trees, for the most part, though, our…
