Pattern Mixing with Pixie Pants
I’m so ready for the remote for my camera to arrive! Seriously, do you know how hard it is to set the timer, run, and pray the focus is still set? I know it’s possible {back focus, I think it’s called} but I’m so not that skilled. So, for now, it’s slightly blurry pictures and wind blown hair. This cardi has been sitting in my drawer for~ever. When I saw it on TV {HSN}, I swooned. Sparkles! Bright colors! Floral print! But it was way beyond what I wanted to pay for a cardigan. I waited patiently for it to go on sale and then I scooped it up. Only…

Maxed Out
If you’ll remember, last week I wrote about how my daughter said that my style can best be described as Mori Kei and I said “Sometimes.” Well, this is why. In my heart of hearts, I’m a hippie. I remember telling my mom that I was born in the wrong decade, she totally should have had me earlier. I wore this outfit to work and, honest to goodness, I kept waiting for a student to shush me because of all the jingling. For those of you who don’t know, I’m librarian. Obviously, I don’t work on the quiet floor. I love bracelets, in fact, they’re probably the only pieces of…

Color Burst
Well, hello there! I hope your week has been fabulous so far. Mine has been great. I’m two days in to a seven day running streak, so yay! My muscles are sore but my mind and spirit are clear. And can you see the muscle definition forming in the front of my legs? I’ve always thought I somewhat resembled Sponge Bob Square Pants. giggle So today I’m all about color and pattern. My theory on color is if you see it together in nature, you can wear it on your body. Really, isn’t God the ultimate designer? You are familiar with His work, right? Stunning! As for pattern mixing,…

Vintage Pin-Up with a Modern Twist
One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about watching my children grow up is seeing their individual style develop. When she was younger, my daughter’s style was very similar to my own: very bohemian. But in recent years {actually, since she started college}, she’s found her own fashion niche. I think her style is both eclectic and classic. I call it vintage pin~up with a modern twist. Now go play in your closet,Â

Happy New Year and 2014 Plans {In the Closet}
Happy New Year! Do you have big plans for 2014? I don’t have any resolutions. I have a hard time with those because I never follow through with them. I do have a few goals for this year: Read the Bible in a Year ~ I read the Bible in 90 days a few years ago and enjoyed it. I think it’s time to do it again but on a less intense level. Sign on for One Word 2014 ~ last year’s word was “Life”… I’m still not sure what this year’s word will be but I’m sure God will reveal it in His time. Learn to use my Nikon…

Pantone~Inspired Fall Color Challenge: Day 5 {In the Closet}
Not only am I a day late and a dollar short, but I’m cheating too… Fridays are Spirit Day at the University and it’s Homecoming Weekend, no way could I not wear our school colors. Unfortunately for me, our colors and the Pantone challenge color for day 5 are not even closely related sooo…. The challenge color was “Acai”, which is described as a purple~y shade. Yay! Purple is my absolute favorite color ever. When I first saw this skirt at the store, I knew it had to be mine. The problem was, it wasn’t actually a skirt. It’s a dress. A strapless dress. I cannot wear strapless dresses. My…

Pantone~Inspired Fall Color Challenge: Day 4 {In the Closet}
Today’s color is “Carafe”, which looks a lot like brown to me. I assume that this is somehow related to the carafe in a coffee maker, so I figured why not match a rich dark roasted coffee bean? I absolutely love coffee. I love the taste, the smell, the feel, the sight… It’s just a feast for the senses. So finding something in a deep rich brown was incredibly easy for me. I wasn’t sure about the boots but I thought wearing the black ones would be a little too heavy. And, well, you know, fashion is all about taking risks, right? What was the last fashion risk you took? …

Pantone~Inspired Fall Color Challenge: Day 3 {In the Closet}
I think I may have hit a record. This is the longest I’ve ever stuck with a clothing challenge and certainly the most times I’ve ever posted fashion related items in a row. Go, me! Today’s color is “Koi”, which is described as a burnt orange. I have a couple of orange items, but I kinda wanted to see how this blouse would look paired with the skirt and cardi. I’m not completely sold. Maybe a belt? I do like the skirt though. It’s a wool blend that’s totally itchy and requires a slip or something to keep it off my skin but I like the artisan feel to it.…

Pantone~Inspired Fall Color Challenge: Day 1 {In the Closet}
I love a good challenge, especially when it’s hosted by librarians. Add in clothes and I’m all in. The first color up is “vivacious”: which is described as magenta. The whole time I was looking for something to wear, all I kept hearing was Blanche Deveraux from The Golden Girls talk about how she uses magenta to describe her mood when she’s not quite blue with depression and not quite green with envy… I think I kind of understand where Blanche was coming from… Magenta is one of those colors that isn’t quite happy but not really sad either. Or maybe it has the potential to go either way, depending upon…

Florals and Stripes {In the Closet}
“Only you could pull off stripes and florals…”, the hubs upon seeing my outfit. My response? Smile and nod. Of course, I would never admit to him that I was having second thoughts about my choice but I didn’t have enough time to change. Pattern mixing is so far out of my comfort zone but I’m trying to broaden my sartorial horizons. This is the second time I’ve worn stripes and florals. Of the two, I think this is my favorite version. I like the mustard against the turquoise and browns. And, of course, that skirt is probably my favorite thrift store purchase ever. It goes with everything. And it’s…
