Hi, and welcome to my kitchen. Unlike most of our homes, this kitchen is not the hang out space. Not because we dislike it but because it really is just about the function. We cook in here, grab our drinks, then sit at the breakfast table {or on the sofa, if we’re particularly invested in a TV show}.
MY KITCHEN
When we first looked at this home to buy it, I told The Hubs that the kitchen was way too small. He pointed out that I was no longer cooking for six. The kitchen, it turns out, is just the right size.
In our other homes, the accent color in the kitchen has always been red. In the last few months, I’ve started making the transition to yellows, creams, and teals to coordinate with the rest of the house.
When we moved into the house, there wasn’t a refrigerator. At first, I was like noooooo…. Then, one night, while watching TV, I saw this refrigerator in the background of a commercial and went on a week long hunt to find it. It took about 3 weeks for it to arrive, but I got my fridge.
Why’d I want this one? Because there’s a separate door for drinks so you don’t have to open the entire fridge to get a drink. Yes, I’m easily amused. There is also a separate wine drawer. I don’t drink wine, so we keep fruit juices in there.
Yes, that’s a container of leftovers. Note the red lid. Now ignore it. Do you see that print? It’s shelf liner! I lined all of the drawers in my fridge with it for two reasons:
- it’s soooo pretty
- it makes clean up easy
This is the little small space on my counter where I keep my cutting boards. I have no idea what’s in that bottle… I found it at an outlet store and thought it look nice on my counter. I’m random like that.
I also like puns. I blame my son – he likes to send me Dad Jokes. I’m not sure why… Probably to annoy me from a distance. LOL
These are the drawer pulls. So very Louisiana. In fact, I think it may be a law, because every house we toured while looking for a home had a fleur de lis somewhere. There was also a heck of a lot of Mardi Gras beads.
My one kitchen requirement was that I have a window over the sink or that the sink look out over the living room. I like being able to look at something when washing dishes….
And every day I get to look at my little plant babies.
So, that’s it. That’s the kitchen.
Do you have a theme for your kitchen?
A RECIPE: WHIPPED CREAM PIE
So this is a super easy recipe that my kids and I absolutely love. Especially during the dog days of summer…
INGREDIENTS
1 Graham Cracker Pie Crust
1 Tub of Whipped Cream
8 Containers of yogurt {any flavor}
DIRECTIONS
Mix the yogurt and whipped cream in a large bowl until well blended. Pour into the pie shell and refrigerator for an hour. You can also freeze it overnight.
If you’re fancy, you can top with fruit.
