Ten Things I Love About Fall {In the Cafe}

by Daenel

Things I Love About Fall {Living Outside the Stacks}

10. Hot apple cider

9. Autumn displays ~ Missouri and Pennsylvania have the most beautiful Fall weather, from the falling leaves to the deep blue skies, nothing is more indicative of the hand of God at work.

8. Heated seats ~ A warm bum. Need I say more?

7. Return to school ~ I enjoy the arrival of the students back on campus. After a quiet summer, the buzz of student activity is refreshing.

6. Boots and socks ~ Can you think of a better cool weather fashion statement for the feet?

5. My favorite TV shows ~ The Walking Dead has given my television viewing new, ahem, life.

4. Big ol’ bowls of soup ~ Have you checked out my Pinterest board? I plan to add every one of those chowders, soups, and stews to the rotation.

3. Comfy sweater ~ It may be because I’m a librarian or because I’m cold blooded, but there’s little better than wrapping up in a cozy sweater.

2. Saturated colors ~ I love the deep rich colors that become so prevalent as the weather grows cooler.

1. Coffee ~ I big puffy heart coffee just about any time but sitting on the front porch with the hubs chatting over a cup of coffee makes my life.

Are you Fall person? What do you love about Fall?

Things I’m Looking Forward to This Fall {About Me}

by Daenel

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but it never hurts to say it again, “I love sweater weather!” Fall is by far my favorite season of the year. I love snuggling up with cozy sweaters, eating comfort foods and watching my favorite TV shows. “Hell on Wheels“, anyone? But there are a few other things I’m looking forward to this Fall, some are old and some are new, either way I’m looking forward to everything that Fall has to offer:

1.  Seasonal Coffee Flavors

Coffee {Living Outside the Stacks}
Oh sweet coffee! Not just the regular flavors but the seasonal ones like Salted Caramel Mocha. I’m so not a Pumpkin Spice Latte fan. Going to coffee houses to get my fix can be pretty expensive, so I searched high and wide for a recipe that I could make at home and I found one at Raves, Faves & Must Haves. ‘Cause that’s what librarians do, we find stuff.

2. New Boots

Boots {Living Outside the Stacks}

My favorite pair of boots finally kicked the bucket. I adored those boots. I wore them with everything ~ skirts, dresses, jeans, etc. I even wore them after the uppers started to crack and the layers started to peel. I drew the line, however, when water started seeping through the cracks and getting my feet wet. So now the search is on for the perfect replacement…

3. Feathering the Nest

Globe {Living Outside the Stacks}

Since moving to Missouri, the hubs and I have discovered that we enjoy antiquing and checking out second hand shops. In fact, every weekend for the past few weeks, he and I have gotten up bright and early to check out some of the local shops. We enjoy finding pieces that will will fit into our new home. I’ll show you more of our purchases in a later post, a little hint: that globe was our latest purchase.

What are you looking forward to this Fall?

Autumn Flowers {Photography}

by Daenel

For the past two days I’ve been working evenings, so I’ve been at a loss as to what to do with myself during the day. Sleep is so not an option. I’m used to being up and moving. So I grabbed my camera and started snapping pictures of things around the house, but nothing inspired me. Then I caught a glimpse of the flowers growing just outside my window…

Autumn Flowers {Living Outside the Stacks}

Aren’t they lovely? I’m not sure what they are but I do love having them outside my front door…

Hope you’re enjoying your day…

Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge: Brown

by Daenel

Without this challenge, I never would have noticed how many beautiful shades of brown there are in nature. There are deep dark shades that border on black, rich sables, sensuous chocolates and mouth watering caramels. There are even shades that have just enough green that in the right light they look olive. Yes, this week I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of brown…

And, last but not least, this one of my pastor’s daughter with her grandfather… It wasn’t taken for this challenge but I absolutely love it.

Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge: Purple

by Daenel

Finally, we’re at my favorite color ~ PURPLE! I absolutely love purple from the deep vampy shades to the softest pastels. To me, it represents royalty, uniqueness, boldness and creativity. It is the color that represents everything that I believe God created me to be.

Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge: Red

by Daenel

So are you all enjoying this challenge so far? I know I am. I’m learning so much from looking at the photographs that all of you have shared (and your tips and tricks have been invaluable). I think the main thing I’ve learned is always have my camera ready, because I never know when a picture~taking opportunity might occur…

Last week, after picking up Miss 18 from school, we decided to visit the local conservation center just to see what they had… Oh my gosh, it was beautiful and crazy at the same time. There were all sorts of animals on display along with information about the indigenous peoples and how they used to live. Fortunately, I had my camera on me and I was able to take some pictures, which I posted here. These are just a couple that I took during the day that met today’s theme:
Red Berries

Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge: Red

On a second visit with my two younger daughters (you can see those pictures here), I took the following pictures of some pretty red leaves:

Lastly, I took these pictures in my backyard. Again, it amazes me the treasures I find when I’m not really looking:

The collage is just a collection of pictures that met the challenge. The little boy in the corner is my nephew, doesn’t he have such attitude? I took that picture of him over the summer when the kids and I were traveling from Pennsylvania to Missouri.

Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge: Orange

by Daenel

If I thought last week’s challenge to find something yellow was next to impossible, I cannot begin to explain how hard finding something orange was…  Seriously, where is all of the orange stuff? Kid you not, even the pumpkins were white. White pumpkins?! What is that? Then I remembered that I’d picked up some oranges on my last trip to the grocery store, so I took them out of the fridge and snapped away.

Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge: OrangeNot the most inspired photographs but then, while driving to church on Sunday night, I saw this

Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge: Yellow

by Daenel

Did you get a chance to check out last week’s photos for the Shades of Autumn Challenge? Weren’t they amazing? Really, there is so much talent out there. I encourage you to take some time and visit the other participants in the photo challenge, those ladies have some serious skills.

SunlightI took this picture of the sunlight peering through the trees in my backyard. It’s during moments like this when I feel closest to God. His loves envelopes me like the warmth of the rays from the sun.

Yellow Leaf

Yellow LeafHard to believe just a few weeks ago these leaves were varying shades of green. Now they’re a slowly changing colors and drifting to the ground, creating a golden path to guide our steps.

Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge: Green

by Daenel

Every Friday for the next two months, I’ll be participating in the Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge that’s being hosted by Kristi at live and laugh…out loud, Alicia at Project Alicia and Rebecca at Bumbles & Light.  If you’d like to participate, I have all the details posted down below.

I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.  Participating in these challenges provides me with an opportunity to grow and stretch as a creator and viewer of art, if you have any hints, tips or tricks, please feel free to leave them in the comments…

Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge: Green

Gazebo
Dallas, Pennsylvania

This beautiful gazebo was in the backyard of a house that the girls and I passed during one of our walks along the Back Mountain Trail.  I couldn’t imagine having something so beautiful in my backyard and not using it.  In fact, I think this fairy tale setting would become my permanent home.

Leaves and Berries
Leaves and Berries
Jackson, Missouri

These berries are on a tree in our backyard.  We’ve been here for about 2 months now and I never realized there were berries on the tree until I took my camera out one day while walking the dog.

Green Apple

Green Apple
Jackson, Missouri

This apple tree is also in my backyard.  Again, it had gone unnoticed until I took my camera out while walking the dog.  Now I wonder how many other treasures I’ve missed just because I failed to see…

Abandoned Building

Abandoned Building
Buckingham, Virginia

While visiting my mother’s family, I stumbled across this abandoned building.  It used to be a restaurant when I was a little kid.  I’m not sure how long it’s gone unused but there is a certain haunting beauty in an abandoned building.

Dewy Blade
Dewy Blade

Jackson, Missouri

Every morning when I go out to walk the dog, there’s a fine layer of dew on everything.  I’m glad I got the chance to capture it.

Dewy Leaves

Really, there is something about dew in the morning, it’s as if everything has been washed and is getting the chance to begin the day anew.

Day 2: Five Fall Fashions I Can’t Wait to Wear

by Daenel

ProBlogger ChallengeWarm apple pie.  Candied cranberries.  Amber colored leaves floating to the ground…

It has been so unbearably hot the last few weeks that it’s almost impossible to believe that fall is just around the corner. And I am soooo excited. I’m such a sweater weather girl… I keep looking at my fall clothes and wishing it would cool off just enough for me to slip into one of my cute little Charlotte Tarantola sweaters.

Here’s a list of other fall fashions I’m looking forward to wearing just as soon as the weather turns crisp:

1. Lace~up boots with floaty skirts
2. Furry vests over skinny jeans
3. Chunky Jewelry layered over turtle neck sweaters
4. Maxi dresses with long cardigans
5. Richer make~up shades

What fashion items are you looking forward to wearing this fall?
