March 10 on the 10th: Let’s Celebrate Pi!
I cannot believe we’re turning 52 today. Yes, I said “we.” There are two of me. You can see pictures of my twin sister and me here and here. Or you can read about our birth story here {Long story short: we’re 45 minutes apart, Shontel was born in the back of a police car and I was born at the hospital door}. We like to say we’re nothing alike, but I think we’ve become a little more similar as we’ve gotten older. Our style has certainly become a little more in tune. She used to be very glam, now she’s a little more eclectic. Still glam but with a bohemian twist. Boho glam. And I’ve always dressed “creatively.”
Seriously, where does the time go? There are days when I still feel like a kid, like I’m not sure what I want to be when I grow up and then reality hits me in the face: I am a grown up. There are so many things I thought I would’ve done or would be doing at this point in my life and, well…. I know “they” say it’s never too late, but sometimes I think it is. And now with the social|political|cultural|economic climate the way it is, I feel like everything needs to be put on hold. So I guess that means this month’s prompt is appropriate, you know, do a little fantasizing.
ABOUT 10 ON THE 10TH
10 on the 10th is hosted by Marsha at Marsha in the Middle. In the tradition of old school blogging, she’ll share a list of ten questions or prompts to help us get to know each other better. The linkup goes live on the tenth of the month.
THE PROMPT: Let’s Celebrate Pi
Marsha chose the irrational as this month’s theme because of Pi Day {3.14 or March 14th}. I may have misunderstood the prompt but I wrote about 10 7 things that I’d like to do that make absolutely no sense to anyone except me.
- Quit my job, sell all my belongings, buy an Airstream, and travel the country taking pictures of abandoned homes. I’d also go to small towns and talk to elderly folks, take their pictures, and tell their stories. People always think they’re boring, but everyone has a story to tell, it’s just a matter of finding someone to listen. I want to be the person who listens.
- I. LOVE. OLD. HOMES. I’d love to buy one, restore it, and turn it into a B&B. Maybe that’s how I can finance my Airstream travel?
- Draw a Hop Scotch game in front of our campus and see if students will play along. A few years ago, we set out coloring sheets and crayons for them, and they sat at tables and colored {even the hard core ones}. But what really made me crack up was when they asked if we could hang the pictures on the walls. It made me realize how much we miss playing and just having innocent fun, and, given the opportunity, we need that moment.
- My first car was a Pontiac Fiero. I loved that car. I loved it so much that I actually owned 3. I’d love to drive one for a day. Not own, just drive.
- I want to go somewhere and just scream to the top of my lungs.
- We grew up in a very religious household, so we weren’t allowed to go to dances or things like that, so I’d like to get dressed up in a super fancy formal dress and go dancing in the rain. Not a cold heavy rain, but a warm hazy rain, with a slight fog. In the evening. Like a romantic movie.
- Spend a day living like life is a musical. You know, everyone just break out in song and dance at random moments. Yes, other people would have to be willing to participate to make it fun.
I can’t think of anything else. I’m actually pretty surprised that I came up with those things. What about you, do you have something irrational that you’d like to do? Please share in the comments.
Soooo, after reading Marsha’s post, I did misunderstand the theme. I’m going to leave my original seven things and add three more. So, here goes:
- I don’t like things out of order and will rewrite things several times if the letters or numbers are not perfectly lined up. I’ve been this way since elementary school. Can you imagine what it was like for me taking notes or writing papers when we didn’t have regular access to typewriters {and no computers at all}?
- I don’t like for my hands to get sticky. When I cook, I’m constantly washing my hands because the idea of raw meat just grosses me out, but I can’t be a vegetarian because I. Love. Meat.
- I always check my reflection several times before I get out of the car because I don’t trust people to tell me whether or not I have something in my teeth. I will, however, tell you because I don’t want you to be embarrassed and wondering why no one said anything.
Hmmmm, maybe those aren’t quite as irrational as I thought.
