What is Your Favorite Part About Writing? #NaBloPoMo
In high school, my favorite part of writing was actually the preparation part. I enjoyed the process of arranging my pens ~ Pilot Precise V~5, thankyouverymuch ~ on my bed, I used to create a little nest out of the blanket so my pens wouldn’t roll around. Yes, I was that much of a nerd. I’d take the sheets of notebook paper (college ruled only) and stack them neatly on the corner of my book, tilted at just the right angle… I always wrote my letters while stretched out on the bed, music pumping through the headphones of my walkman. I also enjoyed the research part of writing. As a…

National Blog Posting Month, I’m Participating
A long long time ago in a country far away, there lived a little girl who dreamed of only one thing, well, she dreamed of a lot of things, but for the purposes of this post, she dreamed of only one thing, to be a writer. Not just any writer but a writer who made a difference, either through laughter or tears or spiritual tugging. That little girl wanted to change the world. As she grew older, life took over and the strong words of conviction that the little girl so desperately wanted to share with the world were replaced with teenage grunts and, later, parental shouts of “No” and…

Lunch with Miss 14, So Worth It
This weekend I was supposed to be in St. Louis hanging out with my bloggy friends at Show Me the Blog but do you know where I am? I’m at home. On the sofa. And I’m OK with that. Yesterday my daughter, Miss 14, invited me to her school to eat lunch with her. Apparently, this is a tradition at their school. For the parents to bring food to the school and eat with their children. I didn’t know about the bringing in the food part, but I’ll get to that later. Anyway, I chose to go to my daughter’s school for lunch today, therefore, I couldn’t make the trip…

I’m Guest Posting at the mahogany way birth cafe
Almost 16 years ago, I traded in my sporty little white Ford Escort GT for a mini van. Not a “swagga wagon” but a big teal green got a pack of screaming kids in the back and gooey stuff between the seats mini van. I was twenty~two years old and in no way prepared for three car seats (!), but nine days before I was due to give birth, the doctor announced that I was having twins… A few weeks ago, Darcel from The Mahogany Way tweeted about a desire to collect birth stories from women of color for her blog, the mahogany way birth cafe, a birth talk blog…

6 Ways to Make Your Blog More Appealing to Companies
A few days ago I asked the question that has been plaguing mom bloggers since the beginning of time. Ok, maybe that’s an exaggeration but from the replies I received to my query, I’d say this topic is pretty high on everyone’s list… Moms want to know how they can make money from their blogs. After I asked the question, Jennifer James wrote a brief outline in my comments section about how to profit from your blog and then she wrote an excellent follow up post. I won’t rehash what she wrote but I will offer the following suggestions for making your blog more appealing to companies: 1. Market yourself…

Introducing Coffee Talk
A little over a year ago a friend of mine from high school contacted me and, after catching up, he said he was surprised to find me living such “a suburban lifestyle.” When I asked him to explain, he said he always thought that I’d be living in the middle of a jungle somewhere reporting on political coups, genocides or other social upheavals… Wow! I remember when that was my dream. I thought I’d change the world with my writing. When I first started this blog, my plan was to write about my journey as I adjusted to life away from the library stacks but over time time my focus…

Welcome to My New Home
After much househunting, I’ve finally settled on a new home and I think I’ll be very happy in my new neighborhood. I’d like to thank Kat J. Robertson for packing and unpacking the boxes for me. She also took care of the interior decorating (also known as setting up my domain, importing my blog and all of its belongings and tweaking the CSS) for me. She did a fabulous job, no? Please take a look around and let me know what you think. There’s a fresh pot of coffee brewing and, if you check the fridge, you’ll find fresh fruit (this is a healthy house, afterall).
