An Egg is Not a Baby
Raise your hand if you remember getting an egg to carry around for a week during sex ed. looks around Yep, I did too. I also remember being a little put off because my egg wasn’t ethnically correct, so I took some crayons and markers and turned my little white egg into a little multi~culti oval shaped facsimile of me. Lemme tell ya, that’s not easily done when you’re a high yellow glasses wearing braces having freckle faced black chick, but I digress. For one week, Little Egglivia (See what I did there?) went everywhere with me. I dressed her in a little tissue diaper, slept with her nestled on…

The First Day of the New School Year
I’m sitting here in the living room, The Golden Girls playing in the background, knowing I should be in bed sleeping but I can’t. There’s too much going through my head. Today is the first day of school for the younger three kids and the day we move the oldest one in to her dorm. Gosh, where does the time go? It feels like only yesterday the nurse was placing Miss 17 in my arms. I remember sitting there staring at her. There was no fear or feelings of insecurity, instead I was overwhelmed by a sense of awe. I couldn’t believe this precious little person had come from me.…

Things Happened While I Was Disconnected
So much has happened in the last week and a half that I’ve been disconnected. Most of it’s been good, some of it’s been bad and the rest has been seriously? I had planned to write out a post for each and every thing that happened but decided against it. You know, for my own sanity. And because I don’t want to overwhelm you with the craziness that is my life right now. So here’s a bit of the happenings from the past few days: We have a home ~ When we moved here, we didn’t have a home. We had the possibility of a home but nothing definitive. I…

My Parents are Spoiling My Kids
Oh my gosh! We have been crazy busy this week. As you know, the kids and I left Pennsylvania for good on 23 July and have been chillin’ with my parents in Mississippi for the week and, lemme tell ya, they sure know how to show their grandkids a good time. On Saturday, my twin sister and her family came in from Tennessee for a visit. That was the first time all of our families have been under one roof in gosh close to fifteen years. Kid you not. We definitely missed the hubs but he’s taking care of the house and making sure it’s all ready for it’s new…

Hangin’ in Mississippi with the Parentals
Soooo this is the longest moving trip ever. Ever. But it’s also been a lot of fun. The kids and I left Pennsylvania Saturday and flew to Alabama where my dad picked us up and drove us to his home in Mississippi. The flight itself was relatively uneventful. Unless you consider the fact that none of our gates were listed on our boarding passes or on the monitors and we had three gate changes in Detroit. But I’m glad my kids got to see some of the hinks that come with flying. I like for them to see how even the best laid plans are subject to change, it gives…

Don’t Wanna Get Banned? Control Your Kids
When I read this article about Mike Vuick who has decided to ban children under six from his restaurant in Monroeville, PA, I thought Fist bump! I’m glad someone is finally taking a stand against unruly kids. In fact, I posted the article on my Facebook page and pretty much everyone who responded had the same reaction ~ they weren’t bothered or offended by Vuick’s actions at all. Because it seemed to be such a non~issue, I hadn’t even planned to write a post about the ban until I read a post on GalTime by KyAnn Lewis demanding that people stop discriminating against kids and parents. Ummm, this isn’t discrimination,…

What Has Brought You Joy?
My girls are my pride and joy. Don’t get me wrong, I like the boy too. I mean, he is my son and all but there’s something about hanging out with my girls that brings me so much joy. I can say that because I know the boy doesn’t read my blog but the girls do and if they try to tease him with this post, it’ll backfire because I’ve already texted him and told him that he’s my favorite. He knows the deal… On this particular day, the girls and I had decided to go walking along the Back Mountain Trail, a nice little path that winds through the mountains where we…

Advice for Miss 17 Upon Her Graduation
For 17 years, you’ve listened to my “Dos” and “Don’ts”. You’ve shrugged me off at times and, at others, you’ve nodded and agreed. I’ve shared my struggles of single motherhood with you. Walking miles in the hot Louisiana sun because I didn’t have a car or the money for a taxi, just to get you from the babysitter’s house. We’ve grown from a team of two to a family of seven. You must of have known that Dad was the man for us, you loved him from the start. So much has happened in the seventeen years that we’ve shared this journey together… A few days ago, I…

Miss 17 Goes to Prom
You know how you have a teenage daughter and they sigh and huff at everything because you just don’t get it because you’re only mom and you’ve never been cool? Yeah, last week that was me with Miss 17 as we drove around for 5 and a half hours looking for a Prom dress. Well, it took the hubs all of 10 minutes to solve the problem. The hubs: “Why don’t you go online and buy a dress from the same place you bought last year’s dress?” Miss 17: “OK.” Me: “Grrrrr….” Seriously, she almost made me give up shopping for good. That would have meant no food or clothing…
