Bollinger Mill Historic Site {Getting to Know Missouri}
I’ve said it before, but I have the navigation skills of a monkey in a windstorm. I used to be able to drive myself across state lines without so much as a map, gps or cell phone without getting lost, now I spend 85% of my time listening to that infernal “Recalculating” over and over and over again. The rest of the time is spent laughing at the fact that I can get lost driving in a straight line. So as it usually happens when Miss 18 and I get in the car, we got lost. I don’t know how or why but she and I always get lost when…

Scavenger Hunt Sunday
Eep! This is my first time participating in Scavenger Hunt Sunday and I’m pretty darned excited. I’ve been stalking reading so many of your blogs and thinking Maybe this week I’ll join up but I haven’t had the nerve until now. 1. What Is It? In the eighties, this item was responsible for a lot of bad contouring. 2. Children/Fur Babies Sleeping Squeekerz isn’t shy about sharing his opinion about the camera, even when he’s sleeping. 3. Joy The story of His birth gives me the greatest joy. 4. Window “Windows to the soul…” 5. Half What’s his is mine and what’s mine is his, but when it comes to…

Random Thoughts
Is your church putting on a Christmas pageant this year? I remember when I was little, the pageant was the highlight of the Christmas season for me. I always begged to play Mary and, one year, they let me. The little Nativity set above reminds me of our church pageants with all the kids decked in bathrobes to portray wise men or shepherds, girls clothed in white sheets with glittery wings and, of course, the requisite kid with cotton balls portraying the sheep. Those were good times. I heard that Alabama has passed an ethics law limits the amount of money students can spend on teacher gifts. Or, at least,…

This or That Thursday
My sisters and I spent most of our formative years in Italy (thanks to my stepdad and the United States Air Force) and while we were over there, my parents acquired many beautiful treasures ~ statutes, glass pieces, vases, etc. But the one thing they had that I always wanted was the marble and wood chess set, where my dad and I used to sit and play chess (for minutes on end ~ I’m really bad at the game). When I moved out on my own, my very first piece of furniture was the chess set and it has been displayed in every home I’ve lived in for over 18…

Photography {My Favorite Blogs}
My camera goes just about everywhere I go. I think that’s probably the most important thing that I’ve learned in the past few months that I’ve been reading photography blogs. I’ve also learned that I should practice taking my camera out of Auto and try shooting in Manual (not easy when you have no idea what all those little numbers and letters mean) but, fortunately, there are some incredible tutorials out there. I can’t afford to take photography classes right now, so I have to rely on tips and tricks from the interwebs. Therefore, I need something that’s written in plain English and with step~by~step instructions and explanations and these…

Photography: Changing My Perspective
I’m always on the lookout for new photography tips because, well, I’m trying desperately to teach myself how to use my camera. I’m not trying to become a pro or anything, I just wanna capture the best, most interesting shots that I can. So when I read Julie Rivera’s post on I Heart Faces about lowering your camera angle to change your perspective, I thought, I can do that. Generally, when I take pictures, I stand with my legs spread and my elbows pressed into my sidec for stability which means that I’m almost always looking down on my subjects instead of meeting them at their level (children and pets)…
