Blogging Through The Gospels: Matthew 14
SCRIPTURE Matthew 14:13~14 13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. OBSERVATION Jesus had just learned of the death of John the Baptist and was retreating to privately mourn the loss of His cousin. But the crowds followed Him and, He understanding that their needs were greater than His sorrow, had mercy on them. APPLICATION As a mother, I know what it’s like to set aside my need for solitude and a…

Welcome to Shoe Style Saturday! I’m so glad that you’re joining me for my first meme. I’m a shoe girl big time but I also love clothes, handbags, jewelry and makeup but that’s another story. So, come on and show me your femme fatale flats, those sexy stilettos and pin~up peep toes, yes, even your racy runners. Milani Slippers ~ Burlington Coat Factory Love them because they’re comfortable and funky. I can wear them with jeans, skirts, slacks,…

Are You a Better Mom Because You Have a Smartphone?
I think so. Dori, my Droid, is like an electronic appendage. It’s on my desk when I’m at work. It’s on my hip when I’m cooking dinner. I sleep with it by my bed. This from a girl who initially resisted the cell phone out of fear of black helicopters, government tracking and way too much access for everyone. Yeah, I know, I’m a little paranoid but that just adds to my charm. But ever since my husband talked me in to getting my first cell about 12 years ago I’ve been hopelessly addicted. I’m one of those people who uses my family members’ upgrades so that I can get…

Miss 17 is Going to The Haven
On Saturday, the hubs and I took Miss 17 for a final tour of Lock Haven University before we drop her off for good. This was my husband’s first time seeing the campus, so this trip was more for his sake than for my own. Like I said the first time I wrote about our visit to Lock Haven University, I immediately felt comfortable on the campus and felt like this would be the right place for my daughter. But, more than that, Miss 17 felt at home. This Open House was much more spectacular than the first one that we attended. First of all, there were a lot more…

Mommy, What Color Were Our Eggs?
One of the things about having four children that I love and hate the most is that my oldest daughter has taken it upon herself to parent the younger kids. Actually, it’s kinda cool that she mothers them because it’s less work for me. However, she has a bad habit of telling them everything she knows. Even when I tell beg her not to… When my oldest daughter was about ten years old, she started asking questions about babies and where they come from, how they get into the mommy’s stomach and all of those other buggy little questions that kids ask. Now, I have always operated under the “use…

Today I’m Rocking the Red Pump Because I Care
I care about the women and girls who will be diagnosed with HIV/AIDs. I care about the women and girls whose lives will be affected by HIV/AIDs. I care about the families who will be devastated by this preventable disease. In the U.S. someone is infected with HIV every 9½ minutes. And every 35 minutes a woman in the U.S. tests positive for HIV. Staggering statistics, no? Women of color will be disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDs. In fact, AIDs is the leading cause of death for Black women between the ages of 25 and 34. Sisters (of all colors), we have to protect ourselves. Make sure you: Know your status Practice…

The Dramatic Story of Our Birth
My sister and I have always known the dramatic story of our birth. Mom used it as a way to highlight my our need for attention since birth. And as I tell you the story, you’ll understand that we come by our dramatics honestly. Thank you, Mom and Dad… It was about 5 AM on a Saturday morning in 1973 when my dad went racing down the streets of Washington, D.C. in his little Datsun. With dual horns blaring and my mother tensing up in labor, my dad violated every traffic law on the books. Really, what do stop lights mean when your wife is about to give birth to…

I’ve Registered for the Spark into Spring Virtual 5K
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that every blue moon I get a wild hair and decide that I want to do something like run a 5K. Last year, I registered for the Children’s Advocacy Center’s 6th Annual Moonlight Run in Scranton but I ended up not being able to run it because of that whole temporary blindness thing. I ended up walking it in 47 minutes. Even though I was able to participate in last year’s race as a walker, my goal is still to run a 5K. I won’t be able to participate in this year’s CAC 5K because of a scheduling conflict…
