You Have Cancer {Repost}
A close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer today. As I listened to her sob over the phone, I wished I could be there to hold her hand, embrace her, and let her know that I understand what she’s going through. My heart aches for her and her family – as a wife and mother, this is an unimaginably difficult time. But her story is not mine to tell, so here’s my story: Am I going to die? Will my kids remember me? Does Tony know how much I love him? How long do I have left? Will I go peacefully? Why me? Those were just some of the thoughts…

Throwback Thursday: Meatloaf Mice {In the Kitchen}
Originally posted: 31 October 2009 On Wednesday afternoon, I received an email from my husband asking if I could come up with something to cook for a Halloween themed party he was having at work. Hmmmm….interesting request, especially since I hate Halloween {chalk it up to my upbringing, those who know my parents understand}. Anyway, I sat up all night Wednesday trying to come up with something delicious and Halloweeny. The best I could come up with was Meatloaf Mice. What you’ll need: Ground beef to make mouse shaped meatloaf {you can make mini ones like I did or big ones} Cooked spaghetti noodles for the tails {I separated them…

Coffee Talk: Paternity Tests, Conrad Murray, and the Zombie Apocalypse {In the Cafe}
Hi, and welcome to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun. So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk… 1. Why? Why? Why is there a show on TV called “Paternity Court”? If you are unsure of the paternity of your child, why on Earth would you go…

Pantone~Inspired Fall Color Challenge: Day 5 {In the Closet}
Not only am I a day late and a dollar short, but I’m cheating too… Fridays are Spirit Day at the University and it’s Homecoming Weekend, no way could I not wear our school colors. Unfortunately for me, our colors and the Pantone challenge color for day 5 are not even closely related sooo…. The challenge color was “Acai”, which is described as a purple~y shade. Yay! Purple is my absolute favorite color ever. When I first saw this skirt at the store, I knew it had to be mine. The problem was, it wasn’t actually a skirt. It’s a dress. A strapless dress. I cannot wear strapless dresses. My…

Share Your Good News {In the Cafe}
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that I like to do a little something called “Fist Bump Friday”, where I encourage my friends to share something that has made them happy during the week. Sometimes we get so bogged down with life and the crazy that comes with it that we forget to recognize the good things. So I thought it’d be fun if we all shared and celebrated together. So please, share your good news in the comments below. Remember, it doesn’t have to be big or earth shattering. If it’s important to you, it’s important to me. This week, I’m happy that I was…

Pantone~Inspired Fall Color Challenge: Day 4 {In the Closet}
Today’s color is “Carafe”, which looks a lot like brown to me. I assume that this is somehow related to the carafe in a coffee maker, so I figured why not match a rich dark roasted coffee bean? I absolutely love coffee. I love the taste, the smell, the feel, the sight… It’s just a feast for the senses. So finding something in a deep rich brown was incredibly easy for me. I wasn’t sure about the boots but I thought wearing the black ones would be a little too heavy. And, well, you know, fashion is all about taking risks, right? What was the last fashion risk you took? …

Pantone~Inspired Fall Color Challenge: Day 3 {In the Closet}
I think I may have hit a record. This is the longest I’ve ever stuck with a clothing challenge and certainly the most times I’ve ever posted fashion related items in a row. Go, me! Today’s color is “Koi”, which is described as a burnt orange. I have a couple of orange items, but I kinda wanted to see how this blouse would look paired with the skirt and cardi. I’m not completely sold. Maybe a belt? I do like the skirt though. It’s a wool blend that’s totally itchy and requires a slip or something to keep it off my skin but I like the artisan feel to it.…

How to Create a Blog Signature Using PicMonkey {Tip Tuesday}
So a few weeks ago I talked about how I wanted to spruce things up for Autumn because, well, I just don’t have the insert whatever word here to decorate my house. My original plan was to simply update my profile picture isn’t it cute? but that led to me updating my Twitter profile, which carried over to me updating the cover photo on my Facebook page, and ended with me overhauling my blog. Snowball rolling down hill, anyone? Of course,I now have to change my signature so that it matches the feel of my new blog. sigh So, I started looking around at different signature creators, rolled my eyes, and thought, why…

Pantone~Inspired Fall Color Challenge: Day 1 {In the Closet}
I love a good challenge, especially when it’s hosted by librarians. Add in clothes and I’m all in. The first color up is “vivacious”: which is described as magenta. The whole time I was looking for something to wear, all I kept hearing was Blanche Deveraux from The Golden Girls talk about how she uses magenta to describe her mood when she’s not quite blue with depression and not quite green with envy… I think I kind of understand where Blanche was coming from… Magenta is one of those colors that isn’t quite happy but not really sad either. Or maybe it has the potential to go either way, depending upon…
