Where Bloggers Live: My Blogging Inspiration
Funny story: my blogging buddies had a whole email chain about how we’re last minute bloggers but we were going to make deadline because *dang it* that’s what we do annnnnnd I didn’t. Not because I’m a slacker but because I’m a slacker. Haha I sat down at this computer six different times last night and every single time, I got up and got distracted by random shiny object until this morning when I audibly groaned and said “I’ve done it again. I’ve missed the deadline.” Y’all, I’m not like this IRL. I’m a stickler for deadlines. I’m the person who shows up to meetings 15 minutes early and gets…

Things have finally started to fall into some resemblance of normal again. I’m so happy. I was supposed to be in New Orleans this week for a conference but I was unable to attend as I’m taking care of my daughter. I was scheduled to give two presentations. One was my Impact Project for…

This has been quite a month for my family. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my daughter has had two mini strokes in the last 30 days. Thankful to Him that she has recovered with minimal issues. We’ve met with her doctors and her prognosis looks good, so we’re…

Where Bloggers Live: Childhood Memories
This is one of the few pictures of my sisters and me that exist of our time in Italy. I used to wear the heck out of those suspenders, I even had a matching baseball cap that I wore when I was feeling particularly snazzy. And that watch? It had the words to Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” written across the face. I used to save up my money {I worked at the base post office} so that I could buy a new watch every month – I was a big fan of the Pop Swatch. I still have a thing for watches, but I mostly wear my Apple watch…

Visit to The Whitney Plantation {Part 2}
These are the names of the enslaved people who lived and worked at the Whitney Plantation. Seeing their names and reading their birth dates humanized them. It’s one thing to have this idea but to see tangible proof of their existence is a whole new thing. ABOUT THE WHITNEY PLANTATION The Whitney Plantation is located in Edgard, Louisiana, and has the distinction of being the only former plantation site in Louisiana that focuses on slavery. Originally known as Habitation Haydel, the Whitney Plantation was founded in 1752 by Ambroise Haydel, one of many German immigrants who colonized the river parishes in the 18th century. Habitation Haydel remained with his family…

The Whitney Plantation {Part 1}
I’m not sure how or when I heard about the Whitney Plantation, but I do remember making a mental note that I wanted to visit. I vaguely remember reading {or hearing} about damage that had been done to the plantation as a result of Hurricane Ida, so I figured we’d best visit soon. Side note: many of the exhibits were closed due to damage/remodeling. I talked to The Hubs to see if he had anything planned for this weekend, he didn’t so I scheduled a tour. The tour was intense. I had to physically restrain myself from running my fingers across the walls and the floors. I’m not sure what…

Where Bloggers Live: Travel
Hey, how are ya? Things are going well I’m my side. I haven’t been up to much… I added some new plant babies to the family {you can see them here, here, and here}. I keep trying, y’all. I’m not good with plants but I love them so much. They remind me of my dad — he kept our house full of plants when we were kids — and I’ve been missing him so much lately. This time around, I’m taking the time to learn about my plants and figure out what they need. I’m following several plant parents on Instagram as well {that’s where I got the idea to…
